Zero Tread Nosing Projection Stair

In this Eltham home the owners used a monochrome palette. The client wanted a modern custom stair design with ‘clean’ lines and an ‘uncomplicated’ look. A major design element of this stair is that the juncture between each tread and riser is square-set, with Zero nosing projection. To create a look with no visible ‘grain’ from the front, the treads and risers were mitre joined. The angled landing and returned step gives the stairwell a strong architectural element. The timber is Tasmanian Oak with a stain finish. The outer string was plastered with a P50 detail to highlight the different finishes. Note: The state of the stair in the images is not complete; the glass balustrades were yet to be installed.
