This stair in Melbourne’s North is an open split string “U” shaped stair in American Oak. The treads and landing are oversized to eliminate the need for riser reduces. The treads are about 30mm off the walls. This open split string with cantilevered treads and winders on each side add a design element to this entry. Solid fixing points were required at the top the bottom of the staircase. The client wanted the stair to be self-supporting so we have used cranked strings to support the landing. The flight and level balustrade is wire using a 50mm round stainless steel posts. The balustrade has been capped with an ex 75x50mm timber rail.
