Split string open stair with Modern steel balustrade

This stair in Mont Waverly is an open split string “U” shaped stair in Tasmanian Oak. The treads and landings are oversized to eliminate the need for riser reduces. This open treads overhang the strings by 30mm on each side add a design element to this entry. Solid fixing points were required at the top the bottom of the staircase. The staircase commences with a large boxed landing step with insert tread in the landing to maintain the consistency of the bottom flight. The client wanted the stair to be self-supporting so we have used cranked strings to support the landing. The flight and level balustrade was designed in collaboration between the client and Signature Stairs and uses round elements in sections.  The Balustrade has been capped with an ex 75x50mm oval timber rails. The rail intersect and mitre to frame each section of balustrade.
