Open Split string with closed winder steps

This stair in Berwick is an open split string “L” shaped stair in Tasmanian Oak. The treads and winders are 42mm making it necessary for the added detail of riser reduces. The open cantilevered treads of the top flight and winders on each side add a design element to this entry. Solid fixing points were required at the top the bottom of the staircase. The staircase commences with a large boxed landing step with insert tread in the landing to maintain the consistency of the bottom flight.The client wanted the stair to be self-supporting so we have used a structural channel in the ceiling to hold the glass and support the top section of the stair along with the cranked strings. The flight and level balustrade is glass using a 50mm round fittings for fixing. The glass has been capped with an ex 75x50mm timber rail.Stair Material:

Specifications: Closed and open stair, Cut strings, Treads with 30mm Nosing Projection. The Material used are: Treads and winders ex 38mm (Laminated to finish 65mm Thick); Strings ex 38mm

Balustrade Material:

Specifications: 12mm toughened glass; ex 75x50mm timber handrails, 50 mm diameter round patch fittings.
